Elastocoast – Flexible Covering Protects Imperiled Coasts

Around 800 kilometers of dike systems protect the German coast from the onslaught of storm floods. Schleswig-Holstein alone invests approximately 15 million Euros annually to ensure that life along the coast is safe.

Innovative solutions for an effective and permanent method or coastal protection are needed. An new development offers this type protection: Elastocoast, an elastomer polyurethane system. The secret lies in its elastic and porous nature. Unlike traditional revetments, Elastocoast can absorb the waves’ force thus allowing it to slow down the masses of water.
